Jefferson Farm and Gardens     Jefferson Farm & Gardens has a variety of animals and attractions.  Jefferson Farm and Gardens is fun for the whole family!  The Farm is a great place to view mid-missouri crops and wild plants.

Corn is a common crop example
Common Crops

Soybeans remain Missouri’s largest cash crop.  Did you know soybean acreage in Missouri outnumbers corn, wheat, rice, potatoes, tomatoes and other major crops combined?

Common crops to be demonstrated include:

  • Soybeans
  • Corn
  • Wheat
  • Sorghum (milo)
  • Oats
  • Alfalfa
  • Cotton

Canola is an example of an alternative crop
Alternative Crops

As a part of the Jefferson Institute’s mission to explore and promote value-added opportunities for farm operations, the demonstration fields will include alternative crops.  All the alternative crops demonstrated can be grown in Missouri.  Hybrids of the Missouri native sunflower are the only native field crop grown in the state.

Alternative crops to be demonstrated include:

  • Sunflowers
  • Buckwheat
  • Dry edible beans
  • Millet
  • Cowpeas
  • Amaranth
  • Canola
  • Flax
For more information on alternative crops, visit the Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute.
