Accessing Federal Programs Workshop

Do you know the difference between grants, loans and cost sharing? Do you know what FSA, NRCS and MDA stand for and how to access their programs? Come to this workshop to find out:

Session 1:

Difference between grants, loans and cost sharing

How to participate in different farm programs
How to sign up for USDA programs

Session 2:

Develop a plan with assistance from NRCS staff to apply for Environmental Quality Incentives

October 3, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and October 4, 2011 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bradford Research and Extension Center.

Cost is $25 to attend both sessions, or you can attend Session 1 for $15 or Session 2 for $10. Cost includes educational materials and food. Register by August 12, 2011. Click here for the registration form or call the office at 573-449-3518.

Melon Field Day

Thursday September 1, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Presentations on melon growing, disease management and insect problems will be given by Dr. Trinklein and James Quinn.

A variety of melons will be available for sampling.

This event is free and open to all.

Come out to the farm for catch and release fishing (bring your own equipment, but we will have have some poles available), view our blooming native flowers in the meadow and plantings by the lake, catch and learn about the insects at the farm, visit with our animals, and stroll around our 7-acre lake.

Come out to the farm for catch and release fishing (bring your own equipment, but we will have have some poles available), chat with a representative from the Missouri Department of Conservation, walk through the gardens, visit with our animals, and stroll around our 7-acre lake.

Getting Started in Organic Farming Workshop

Have you considered farming organically but want to
know how to manage fertility, control weeds and insects,
comply with regulations? Come to this workshop
to learn:

How to manage insects, weeds and diseases in organic production
Basics of managing soil fertility organically
The latest on organic regulations
Where to find organic certifiers
What federal and state resources are available for organic growers

Cover Crops: Managing Healthy Soils Workshop

Learn about the dynamic soil environment and how cover crops can improve soil health. Then tour fields at Bradford Farm and Jefferson Farm & Gardens where cover crops are incorporated into planting rotations for field crops and vegetables.

8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Bradford Research and Extension Center
