The Austrian winter peas were planted in early October and are providing winter soil cover in the Jefferson Garden.

We had a bumper sweet potato crop this year.

The Swiss Chard loves the cooler weather and is putting on growth.

Here is a developing Halona melon in our Jefferson Garden.

The Halona melon ripened in time for our field day.
Participants were able to taste a variety of different melons.
James Quinn led a field scouting exercise to identify squash bugs and cucumber beetles in our Jefferson Garden as part of our melon field day.

Our field of sunflowers is blooming.

A young Mountain Sweet Yellow watermelon is growing in the garden.

We are using cover crops in the Jefferson Garden as well. Cowpeas are grown in the aisles between rows of Silver Queen sweet corn to suppress weed growth and deter raccoons.

Here is a picture of the field corn growing in the remains of our crimson clover cover crop.
Despite the heat and dry weather, we harvested large berries from the blackberry cultivar 'Kiowa'.
The paw paw tree is native to Missouri. The flavor of the fruit is likened to a mildly sweet mango.
These young pullets will start laying eggs in about 5 months. The breeds pictured are White Crested Black Polish, White Polish and Buff Cochin.

A new addition to the farm! Ellie was born June 14, 2011, and she is a mix between a Red Poll and Black Angus.

Kid's Day was a success! Visitors were able to milk a cow, ride a pony, catch insects, and create edible soil profiles.



The cover crop, crimson clover, has been rolled, and the field is ready to be planted to corn.

We are using a no-till drill to plant our corn into the crimson clover residue.
