Weather details >Ways of Giving
There are a number of ways for you to lend your financial support to the Jefferson Farm & Gardens. This is especially important in its formative phase. You may make an unrestricted gift that will go to our greatest need or you may designate your gift for a specific part of the Farm & Gardens.
Gifts of Cash or by Check
Your gift of cash is tax-deductible in the year you make your donation. Large gifts may be deducted for up to five years. Consult your tax advisor regarding your specific tax situation.
All checks should be made payable to the Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute.
Gifts by Credit Card
You may want to make a gift by charging your MasterCard or Visa. This can be done as a one-time gift, or arrangements can be made to charge your card monthly, quarterly or annually. Contact Matt Gaunt, director of development, to use your credit card to help us grow.
Gifts of Stock & Securities
Often is it quite advantageous to you to make gifts using appreciated stocks and securities. If you have held them for twelve months or more and they have increased in value, you may take a charitable deduction for the current fair market value on the date the electronic transaction of your gift occurs. Long-term capital gains tax will likely be avoided in this case.
If you have suffered a loss with your stocks, you may choose to sell them and donate the proceeds to us. You may be able to take a charitable deduction for your gift as well as a tax deduction for your loss.
It is recommended that you confer with your personal financial and tax advisors to review your specific tax situation as it relates to gifts of this nature.
Pledges
This may be an avenue of giving for you to make a larger gift. By making a pledge, you make a commitment for a specific gift amount to be paid over time. The minimum amount for a multi-year pledge is $5,000. The maximum pledge period is five years with the first gift payable within the first six months of making your commitment. Your gift may be unrestricted for our greatest need or designated to a specific aspect of the Farm & Gardens.
You may arrange to pay your pledge in quarterly or annual payments. Pledge reminders will be mailed to you one month prior to the payment due date, which you may select for your convenience. Pledge payment options include check, MasterCard or Visa. For more information about making a pledge, contact Matt Gaunt, director of development.

In-Kind Gifts
Gifts of donated goods and services for the Jefferson Institute or the Jefferson Farm & Gardens are considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact Matt Gaunt, director of development, regarding your interest in helping us in this way.
Planned Giving
Many people want to remember charitable organizations that reflect their goals and values with a planned or deferred gift. Gifts of this nature will benefit the Jefferson Farm & Garden in the future and are important to our long-term growth.
Gifts by Will & Revocable Trust
Making provision for the Jefferson Farm & Gardens in your will is one way to support us. If you are unable to make an outright gift now but would like to make a difference in the future, consult your attorney to write your will or modify an existing one with a codicil.
As with any gift, you may choose to specify what your gift will support. Unrestricted bequests will allow us to use your gift for our greatest need in the future.
Other Deferred Gifts
There are a number of other ways to make a planned gift, including various types of charitable trusts and annuities. If you have an interest in discussing these options, contact Matt Gaunt, director of development.
